A Day at the Races

A day at the Races is turning in to an annual event for one of my good friends and I. On Saturday, we got all dressed up and headed to Ladies Day at the local racecourse.

A day at the Races is a lot of fun. It can be pricey but if you go with a set amount of cash for drinks and for betting and don't take your bank card, then you'll do just fine. It also helps if your friend's boss is in attendance and splashes out on champagne for everyone all day.

As it was Ladies Day, we definitely wanted to look our best. There are prizes given to the best dressed ladies on the day but it is also nice to look your best and don a fancy hat. I chose a colour scheme of blue and red for my outfit. I already had a red fascinator from last year and I thought it would be good to get some more use out of it.

My dress is from online clothing store Chi Chi London. It was a bit of a risk buying a dress online but I was delighted with the dress when it arrived and it fit perfectly. My fascinator and clutch are both from a local boutique in town and my shoes were from Littlewoods; they were reduced from £50.00 to £11.00 and were really comfy and easy to walk in (before the champagne, of course!)

Before we set off for the Races, we headed in to town to have lunch at a lovely restaurant. We met up with the rest of the people we were going with and enjoyed a lovely meal and a few drinks. My friend had arranged a minibus for us all and it arrived at 4.30pm to collect us. Naturally, we needed to get some refreshments for the bus so we stopped at a local Morrisons and improvised with Morrisons coffee cups for the wine!

When you arrive at the Races, it's amazing to see all the girls dressed up in beautiful dresses and stunning hats/fascinators. The men always look very handsome in shirts and ties or, my favourite look, jeans, a shirt and a smart blazer/jacket.

We went through the gates and headed straight to the champagne tent. We managed to find a table in the sunshine and we sat there from around 5.30pm until 9pm. We were pretty merry by the time we left! We didn't win anything we bet on; infact we gave up betting after the fifth race, preferring to save our money for more drinks.

The entertainment after the Races is really good. There's a live band inside the racecourse and it was fun to have a dance. For the ladies who get picked as best dressed, they get to take part in a fashion show, but we didn't see that...none of us were picked.

We headed to our minibus at 11pm and headed in to town for more dancing and drinks. I got home at almost 3am! It was a fantastic day and night and we can't wait for next year!

What's Happened? What's Happening?
