The Craze That is the ICE Bucket Challenge

At one point, my timeline on FB was video after video of people having water thrown over them; they seemed to be never-ending.

But, it is raising awareness for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), one of the most common types of Motor Neuron Disease (MND). ALS is characterised by muscle spasticity; rapidly progressive weakness due to muscle wasting. This results in difficulty speakingswallowing, and breathing. It's a horrible disease. There is no cure.

Nomination after nomination circulated and, thankfully, I seemed to be left out. I didn't mind.

Eventually, my luck ran out and I was nominated. Did I want to have ice cold water thrown over me? No. Did I do it? Yes.

I nominated Z as he was desperate to take part. Husband had been nominated and, being him, he had to do something outrageous. Miss C was also nominated but she didn't fancy it and I wasn't going to force a five year old to do something that she didn't really need to do. We just donated a bit extra.

So here we are, in our ICE Bucket Challenge glory...

Was it cold? It was blooming freezing. But if it gets people talking, raising awareness and money for charity then it can only be a good thing.

Did you take part? What do you think of these challenges for raising awareness and money for charity?
