Maverick Early Readers - Book Reviews

We recently received a collection of Early Reader books from Maverick. Their range of Early Readers include some of their current picture books, downsized to make them small enough for those children who are learning to read themselves.

The titles available in this first collection of Early Readers are A Scarf and a Half, Preposterous Rhinoceros, The Black and White Club, Hocus Pocus Diplodocus and Yuck! said the Yak. These books are aimed at children at Key Stage 1 level.

Miss C instantly recognised the books from her collection as we have all of these books in our collection. Having a look through them though, I could see that the story had been altered slightly and the text is printed on to white backgrounds making it easier for younger children to read themselves.

The books have a quiz at the end of the story so you can ask your child questions about the story which will help their comprehension and show you how much of the book they understood. You can also download the Early Reader Learning Packs for each book from Maverick's website. These include learning objectives and lesson plans to help your child with their learning to read journey.

These Early Readers are a great addition to the Maverick Book collection and I love that they aren't brand new stories but ones that Miss C is familiar with. I felt that they boosted her confidence when she was reading them because we had read the picture books before.

We received these books for the purposes of a review. The opinions expressed are my own.
