31 Day Blogging Challenge - 5 Favourite Songs

I love listening to music. I remember as a teenager, my CD player was used more often than my TV was. And as I went to sleep each night, I'd have my earphones in, listening to something on my walkman.

Music has the power to take you on a journey. One single song can evoke so many emotions or memories. It can be the memory of a great night out or the song you first danced to with a boy at the school disco. It can make you feel sad, happy, excited or angry.

Choosing 5 songs is a challenge in itself; I have so many favourite songs and I don't have a particular taste in music although, I'd have to say Hip Hop and R&B is probably my favourite to listen to. After much consideration, these are my 5 favourite songs:

  • Someone In The Dark - Michael Jackson
I love Michael Jackson a lot. My Dad is a big fan and used to play his records all the time when I was little. This is one of my favourite songs because it is played during home videos of when I was a newborn and all of my relatives are in it, some of them who are sadly no longer with us. I also think it has such a lovely message within the lyrics. I even love it despite the fact that it is in the soundtrack to one of my least favourite movies...ET!

  • Part Of Your World - The Little Mermaid
Of course a Disney song was going to feature in my top 5 and The Little Mermaid is my favourite Disney film. I could listen to Part Of Your World on repeat and never get tired of it.

  • Keep Ya Head Up - TuPac
This is a song that I listened to on repeat as a teenager and the words felt very poignant when I was going through some pretty hard times. TuPac was an artist I had on repeat as a teen.

  • I Only Wanna Be With You - Hootie & the Blowfish
This song holds a special place in my heart because it was Husband and I's first dance at our wedding. We kept going between songs for our first dance and then we listened to this song and thought it was great and perfect for us. We wanted something fun and unexpected and not one person guessed the song!

  • Steal My Girl - 1D
This is one of my favourite songs because it is one of Z and, in particular, Miss C's favourite songs. It was the first 1D song she learnt of by heart, despite having heard all their previous songs. She loves the video; Harry and Niall are her favourites. I just love that whenever she hears it, she perks up and sings along because it is one of her favourite songs.
