You are Nine

Dear Zachary,

How is it even possible that you are 9? It means I've been a Mummy for almost a decade and I can honestly say, it has flown by in the blink of an eye.

I wonder what age 9 will hold for you. Your last year in single figures. When I was 9, I was living abroad, in Mexico City, taking cats to school in my school bag and staring as the main character in our school's production of Alice and Wonderland. You are looking forward to being on stage in your school show next week and have memorised not only your own lines, but all of your friends too.

You are such a lovely boy to be around. You are funny, happy and have such an outgoing personality, people are automatically drawn to you and you will talk to anyone. You love to share facts and knowledge that you have discovered in a book or on the at school.

You excel at school and show no signs of stopping. Today you find out who your new teacher is although, you already know it's the teacher that you really, really wanted for Primary 6 and you are staying with all of your best friends so you are really, really happy. I can't believe that you only have 2 years of Primary school left before you'll head to high school.

You don't really have one passion or love, like you sister does with horse riding. Instead, you are willing to try new things and you love to learn new skills. You have a knack for being able to turn your hand to anything after a first, sometimes second attempt. That's an amazing ability to have and I'm sure it will stand you in good stead as you grow up. You are doing amazingly well in Karate, having recently achieved your brown belt. You like to rub it in Dad's face that you got a belt higher than he did when he went to Karate.

You want to be a Doctor when you grow up and I have no doubt in my mind that you will realise that goal. You also want to play football and you've decided that the best way to combine both is to set up a 5-a-side Doctors football team. You have a great mind Zachary; don't ever lose it.

I hope you have a wonderful birthday and a wonderful year of being 9.

Love you lots, always and forever,

Mum xxxo
