Doing What I Love

There aren't many days like today left in the year so we took advantage of the sunshine and headed out for a hack.

I love horse riding. I started at a young age, went for a number of years and then stopped. Looking back, I wish I had kept it up but I went to cheerleading instead. And as much as I enjoyed dancing, stunts and the gymnastics side of it, horse riding has always been in my blood.

My Grandma owned horses for many, many years. My cousins, Sister and I would spend our weekends at the stables, riding and then mucking out the horses. I will always remember the time my Sister fell asleep on one of the ponies whilst we were out on a hack.

When Charlotte said she wanted to start riding, I knew it would be dangerous. For me I mean, although, of course it is a dangerous hobby. I knew I'd want to get back in the saddle.

I've been riding for a year now and I look forward to it every fortnight. I'd like to go once a week but I think Charlotte would get fed up if we went every week. My technique is slowly improving and I feel more and more confident doing things. Today, for example, I cantered a jump which is something I never did as a child. I was never a big jumper; I preferred being out in the field, trotting and, occasionally cantering.

We have a private lesson in a few weeks and I really want to do some more jumps to increase my confidence.
